Cynthia Erivo shows off her toned arms in a white dress at 2021 Emmys

Cynthia Erivo highlighted her fit figure in a stunning white leather dress as she walked the red carpet Sunday night at the 2021 Awards in .

The 34-year-old actress was nominated at the ceremony for Lead Actress in a Miniseries, Movie or Anthology for her acclaimed turn as legendary singer Aretha Franklin in Genius: Aretha.  

The singer and stage star wasn’t successful though, losing out on the prize to Kate Winlset for her mystery drama Mare Of Easttown.

Cynthia stood out among the eye-catching ensembles with her embroidered leather gown, which featured thick straps and no sleeves to highlight her fit arms.

The dress, a custom Louis Vuitton item, was belted around her midriff and culminated in a colorful mermaid-style feathered hem in shades of blue, green and white feathers.

Earlier, she shared a soundless closeup video to her Insta Stories that put her flawless makeup and long lashes on display. 

Cynthia was nominated in the Lead Actress category for her chameleonic portrayal of Aretha Franklin in her early years on National Geographic’s critically acclaimed series Genius: Aretha.

The series arrived shortly before Jennifer Hudson also played the singer in a biopic titled respect.

Speaking with E!’s Daily Pop in the spring, Cynthia said she didn’t mind two people playing Aretha.

‘I’m greedy.

So, any Aretha I can get, I’m getting. I want to hear Aretha coming out of Jennifer’s mouth. Those two have a really special relationship,’ she said.

Franklin passed away in 2018 at 76 years of age, and Franklin was asked what was the one thing she’d say to the Queen of Soul, if she could.

‘I don’t know how you did this.

I don’t know how she made it through all of the things she made it through, still kept her sense of humor, still managed to keep a sense of brightness about her, managed to raise a family and make all the music she made,’ Erivo said.

She added Franklin was, ‘brave all the time…

and she always looked fabulous,’ while revealing the one Aretha song that always hits harder than the rest for her. 

Although she wasn’t triumphant on the award stage, that didn’t keep the actress from geeking out with legendary actress, dancer, choreographer and director Debbie Allen, who won the honorary Governor’s Award.

The 2021 ceremony took place at L.A.

The space offers indoor and outdoor locations, but the main ceremony was held in a large indoor space.

Cynthia and the rest of the guests all needed to be fully vaccinated, and they also had to provide a negative Covid-19 test.

Because of the selection procedures, the attendees went without masks for most of the ceremony.
